Pitt student hopes to run against Doyle for District 14 seat
PITTSBURGH -- A University of Pittsburgh student said he hopes on heading to Capitol Hill to fill Pennsylvania's 14th District congressional seat.
Scott Grimes said he is taking a semester off from his studies to focus on his campaign against Rep. (D - PA) Mike Doyle.
Grimes said he is running with very little funding and is using the Internet as a way to spread word of his campaign.
"I ask, especially the American public, what good is it doing when you could be donating that money to your local food bank or local library," said Grimes. "We are relying heavily on social media, Facebook and Twitter. Also volunteers, strictly people that want to get behind what I believe in."
Grimes said he wants to address topics such as the budget deficit and how long politicians can serve.
"Exercise some congressional reform. We need to possibly set up term limits for congressmen and state senators," Grimes said.
Doyle said he agrees with some of Grimes' beliefs.
"If and when he is successful and makes it on the ballot, I look forward to seeing him on the campaign trail and letting the people decide," Doyle said.
Grimes said he hopes to secure 3,000 signatures so his name can be added to the ballot. He has until August to collect the petition signatures.
